1961 finally saw the matriculation of female students in Santa Clara University. This decision made headlines and has been a big part of both the personal histories of the students as well as the university's history.

The decision to allow female students at Santa Clara University was not one of 1961, but a decision that came from three decades of working towards education equality. The establishment and growth of the Catala Club and Faculty Wive's Club during the 1930s and 1940s and the steps made in coeducation during the 1950s all contributed to the final decision in 1961.
